HERE ARE TIPS TO AVOID HIRING A SHADY CONTRACTOR:

Don’t Let Price be Your Only Guide

Many homeowners think obtaining three bids and if they all appear to be roughly the same, take the low bidder. This is simply not always a good practice. The Contractor may be planning on shortcuts in quality which can make the homeowner the ultimate loser.

Check reviews and online reputation

No one can be shady for long, check the BBB website, Yelp reviews, and Angie’s list. Check how many reviews they have when was the first review left? If the first review is only a month ago you know the company doesn’t have any experience

Know Who You are Dealing With

Doing business with a Contractor who has a good reputation for doing the job right, in an ethical manner, at a reasonable cost is the ideal situation. Ask for references and then verify them.

Require insurance

Require both a certificate of insurance and the Subcontractors insurance,if they are certified and they have 0 employees there is no coverage, If someone is hurt you can very well be held liable.

Familiarize Yourself with the Terms

Contractor’s proposals and Contracts should contain specific terms and conditions.

Verify the license and the CLSB

Do not just assume the registration is  valid! Go onto the CSLB website and check who the RMO is.

Meet Carla Crancer a Santa Clarita Senior that almost lost everything after being scammed by a shady contractor.

Carla Crancer answered a standard marketing call saying there are programs that can help her replace her roof. The company offered a meeting with a free roof inspection, After which the company had her sign on a 60,000 loan, but it didn’t end up there.

They continued to use scare tactics and high pressure sales methods to put her into a reverse mortgage to afford the replacement. When Crancer called Uzi Zaray from Ground Up Builders she thought she would of  lost her home but Uzi helped her get all her money back and help the CSLB put those crooks behind bars.
