Richmond, VA – The Virginia Center for Addiction Medicine (VCAM) is pleased to announce the acceptance of Anthem Virginia Blue Cross and Blue Shield’s commercial health plans. The following treatment programs, designed by Physicians and Psychiatrists who are Board Certified in Addiction Medicine are covered:

Withdrawal Management (Detox)*: a four-week office-based program that provides the necessary medications for comfort while detoxing and medically stabilizing the patient.  Each program is individually designed for patients who fall within a specific risk level based on the substance(s) used, as well as length and quantity of use. The program VCAM’s approach helps patients become and stay substance-free within a short period of time.

“The first critical step in overcoming a drug or alcohol problem is getting clean and sober – always daunting, usually uncomfortable and sometimes medically dangerous” states Dr. James Thompson, VCAM Founder and Medical Director. “The Detox Program at VCAM begins with expert medical management of the physical symptoms of withdrawal followed by a deeper look at the personal, emotional and psychological roots of the problem so that each patient has a comfortable but also empowering experience meant to lead to lifelong recovery.”

Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT): a longer-term “phased” evidence-based treatment plan that includes the services provided in Withdrawal Management and the prescribing of FDA-approved medications including Vivitrol, Suboxone, and Naltrexone. Patients must adhere to certain requirements to receive coverage from Anthem.

All programs include comprehensive addiction recovery care:

• Physician and Psychiatry oversight

• Individual and Group Therapy

• Psychiatric Services

• Phone Support 7 Days a Week

• Multiple Appointments on the Same Day

• Peer Recovery Specialist Coaching

• Point of Care Labs
