A new Indiegogo campaign has launched a breakthrough safe strategically designed to tackle epidemic of prescription drug abuse. Dubbed the “SafeLyfe Alpha”, it’s the first ever smart safe in the world intelligently designed to bring accountability & oversight to the dispensing of medication. It is also the only safe today that requires the consent of 2 or more people to open it.
The campaign aims to raise around $100,000 within the next 45 days to help fund the final development and manufacture of the safe.
Another unique feature of the SafeLyfe Alpha is that it comes with a built-in camera which is activated when the safe is open allowing parents, spouses or caregivers to be updated about who is opening the safe and what is being taken from it. All functions of the safe are controlled from a companion iOS or Android app. The safe’s size also makes it portable and easy to be used at home or on the go.
Studies increasingly show that many victims of the opioid epidemic become addicts by accident. In many cases, they were prescribed powerful opioids by their doctors to treat legitimate pain issues. The problem usually occurs when they come home with the prescription and are left to themselves to manage how much and how often they take the medication. The SafeLyfe Alpha allows patients to securely store their medication as soon as they pick it up from the pharmacy and designate a family member, friend or caregiver to monitor and oversee their access to it. This makes the patient accountable to a third party as they work themselves back to health.
