Bull & Bear Open To New Investors

Chicago, IL – Bull & Bear [launched] its liquid global macro fund in the third quarter of 2018. The fund utilizes a variety of disciplined, liquid, and repeatable investment approaches defined by a set of proprietary rules, that have been refined for nearly a decade. The strategy seeks to generate superior risk-adjusted returns while preserving capital in any market condition.

The brainchild of the fund Peter Lucey, President & CIO, builds upon a decade of experience crafting investment strategies to drive upside potential while dramatically limiting downside risk and volatility, which includes successfully navigating through the financial crisis with his previous fund Arsenal Advisors.

“Bull & Bear was founded on the basis of investors needing to protect their hard-earned capital through wealth preservation while also having capital appreciation,” Lucey said. “Our goal closes the gap between investment needs and a lack of quality options.”

Bull & Bear is a diversified global-macro fund which allocates to a range of investment vehicles and proprietary quantitative and discretionary strategies. The fund seeks to exploit speculative trading opportunities in a broad range of equities, fixed income, commodities, commodity and financial futures, options, forwards, swaps and other derivative instruments. Once the opportunity is exploited, there is a regimented and repeatable process to develop cost basis, stay nimble, and allow flexibility to trade around positions. This process is achieved through a quantitative model and leverages a variety of tools to get into the positions.

Bull & Bear focuses on the importance of avoiding large drawdowns in accumulating wealth. For example, in Q4 2018 the markets experienced one of the worst quarters in the past 50 years. The fund was able to cut risk by approximately 50% during the time period. While volatility seen in Q4 was relatively rare, it is not uncommon to see sizeable swings in the market that can have a lasting impact on portfolios. The fund showcased its true value proposition of cutting risk while driving market competitive returns on the upside, by later capturing ~75% of the S&P 500 rebound in Q1 2019. At the end of Q1 2019, the fund was achieving a 3.84 Sharpe Ratio YTD.

“There is no such thing as a risk-free investment, only the illusion of safety.” Peter Lucey says. “So our mission is to be the most predictable part of your portfolio by producing attractive risk-adjusted returns, regardless of economic condition. My passion for investing starts with an understanding of risk to drive an optimal risk-return ratio. Most people don’t understand investment risks, which often leads to two major challenges for investors; longevity risk and sequencing risk.”

Bull & Bear is passionate about empowering others and making a difference in the community through philanthropic initiatives. For this reason, they have partnered with local and national charities focused around involvement, contribution, and awareness. March of Dimes, Imerman Angels, Proactive Kids, and NoStigmas are among the first charitable partners to join forces with the fund.
