Herman Leimbach Elementary School students picture themselves doing great things thanks to their SEVA Teacher, Ms. Swift in the Elk Grove Unified School District

In an effort to shine light on the many teachers who spend countless hours developing students’ skills in telecommunications, the Sacramento Educational Cable Consortium (SECC) developed SEVA. SECC is a collaborative effort in the Sacramento community to provide educational resources to learners from Kindergarten into early adulthood. Through the Sacramento Educational Video Awards (SEVA) program, students are taught skills in video and other information and communication technology areas. From that program, a Teacher of the Week is chosen from the many talented SEVA teachers who help to develop and implement students’ skills in incredible ways all around the Sacramento area.

Herman Leimbach Elementary School is fortunate to have one of those special SEVA Teacher of the Week recipients in their midst —Ms. Erica Swift. Ms. Swift has spent a number of years as a very successful computer resource teacher and has been committed to using technology to open the world of possibilities in education to her students. Abelardo Córdova, Principal at Herman Leimbach, said that the news of Ms. Swift being chosen as a SEVA Teacher of the Week was wonderful, but not surprising because, “Erica is a pioneer at Leimbach with video production and has impacted many students through this platform!” Organizers of SEVA hope to honor every teacher who encourages and fosters the passion and talents of their students.

Ms. Swift gives all her students the opportunity to share their voices beyond the classroom in her dedicated efforts through SEVA. With all the hard work Ms. Swift’s students put into their entry for SEVA, they all thank their passionate teacher for teaching them everything they needed to know about filming, audio, and editing.
